Weak link? What am I doing wrong?

Currently:

Old Alpine 9874 HU

CDT ES-620 comps (running passive)

Alpine PDX 4.150

Set fronts at nominal power on amp. HU volume goes up to 36, but only at 12 on certain songs, there's a farting noise coming from the mids. These speakers are suppose to take 150-200 watts. Are they dead? Am I giving them bad signal from the HU or amp? Any help is appreciated.

I'm getting pretty frustrated. Either I don't know what I'm doing or there's a demon in my car. Nothing seems to sound good. Things sounded decent the first couple of years when I got the truck, it's gone downhill since then. I keep adding/upgrading and nothing seems to help. I just want to keep it simple. I'm tempted to upgrade again with new stuff, but I'm afraid of wasting more money. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif I'd thought about going with a new HU, ID CTX65cs or PPI 356CS and new subs since that'll involve changing ohms. Thanks for reading! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Stuff I've gone through (or switched-out/still using):

Alpine 9874

Eclipse 8445

CDT ES-620

PG RSD65cs

Alpine MRV-f345

Alpine PDX 4.150

Elemental design 9kv (2)

Ascendent Audio Assassins 10 (2)

Thanks for the quick response!

Are you talking about the amp or the speaker crossover?

The passive crossover only 1 switchable option (5.25 or 6.5 woofer).

Isn't the amp suppose to be set to full range for the fronts? Then, you allow the passive crossover to do its job.

I'll give it a shot though. Anything is worth trying, as long as it doesn't break it, right? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

It won't break it. Take the speaker crossovers out and run the amp on high pass. I think it will fix your problem. The crossovers are probably blown.
