Ways to establish credit...?

Many times card companies look @ parental income for college age kids. I had friends in college with 20,000 dollar credit cards based on parental income. CC companies love this... little Johnny racks up a big bill in college and usually Mom and Dad bail them out.
Anyway... I got my first Credit Card in college. Paypal sent me an offer for a VISA through them (their name on it, regular VISA). Took it... still have it. My credit is pretty solid... have 6 cards now between myself and Sundown Audio. Only 1/2 have any balance on them, though.

My dad works at Ford's and makes between 45-50k so we weren't poor. I just don't understand how I couldn't get approved for anything.

I couldn't get anything until I had that "college card" for a while, either.

Credit is such a pain... can't get it if you don't have it, and can't have it unless you get something which you can't get if you don't have it already *laughs*

unfortunately when i was younger credit was way to easy to get, thousands of dollars and one bankruptcy later i have learned my lesson

cool. thanks for the advice yall.

im goin to my bank tomorrow to see if they will start me off with anything. anything i should keep my eye out for when they are telling me about stuff?

to the o.p,sorry if anybody told you this already as i don't feel like reading the whole thread but the easiest way to build credit is to have your mother or whoever put you as an authorized user on their credit card,now assuming your mom pays her bills on time then you will be golden

make sure you understand the terms 100% and there is no reason for an annual fee card

id rather start out from scratch myself. i dont need my mommy's help so i have it easier in life.

she already did enough of that with all the other little things, like childbirth and whatnot.

i lov discover try to get into one of them line of cards, if you purchase online alot it will come in handy when you have a issue with products or serivices, simple call to them and within minutes your money is back (credit returned to card) and there are specials to get into them with little to no interrest rate to start out with,

and since you have a nice bank account, go to the bank and ask for a 1000 - 2000 signature loan since they can see you have solid bank account and they can also see what your deposit amounts are and will be able to tell if you can afford to pay it back properly

and most if not all credit cards have stoped this little credit geter because its costing them alot of money , giveing someone credit when there not the one paying the bill, theve goten smarter, do a search on it and read more, it was on msn home page a few months ago
