wattage on JL 10w7's

I've been reading a lot on this forum about people putting over 500 watts rms on these subs, even up to 1000 watts rms. Can these subs really handle that much without blowing them? I'm talking about using a clean amp with little distortion. Right now, I'm giving about 400 watts rms total to both subs. I'm happy with the sound but Its time to get a new amp. So how much wattage should I give each sub?

thanks

The enclosure will play a role in the power handling too. But I honestly don't see why they wouldn't be able to take 1000rms in the right box. JL's sub's are built nice and IMO any sub that's built good should be able to take a little more then rated power. Not to mention alot of companies will give the sub a lower RMS figure then what they can take in a attempt to keep all the noob's from blowing them by trying to give them 800-1000rms from a Pyle amp.
