I started today on replacing the water pump and got to the fan clutch and cannot get it off. I rented the fan clutch wrench and other wrench to ghet it off and it just strips it. I am turning clockwise like instructed everywhere and I have no idea what to do from here. please hellp.

No the pump is still attached. There is a bolt under the fan clutch that i cannot get to unless it is off.
I take it you got the same 2.9l that's in my ranger?

If that's the case, the whole fan assembly just unthreads from teh front of the pulley. You are right that it's counter-clockwise thread.

The problem I had was keeping the waterpump from turning. It was tight as hell and I thought something was going to break for sure.

Worse case if you break something you can always install some electric fans and free up some horsepower. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
