so i have a massive 3000 that the case is pretty nasty looking.im thinking about pulling the board out and taking it to a custom paint shop and having it painted.first question is how hard is it to pull the board out.second is is there a specific company anyone recomands to have do this,or should i just go around and see what the custom paint shops say.please give me your input and pics of other amps if anyone has done this before.

there are a bunch of screws to take out. just to get the board out.....and there is always a chance one of the holdowns will touch the legs of the transistors and short out....i wouldnt mess with it.....just leave it in the heatsink if you want to paint it..

i wouldnt bother with it.....paint only makes the amp more prone to hold more heat. .. and it will smell like a paint factory in your car ....lol eventually the paint will peel off, and make the amp look even worse than it did before.....

ive painted a kicker kx1200.1 before....but i had to because somebody went paint happy . they put a thick coat of metalic blue, then got bored with it ...lol.. then went back and painted it gloss black over the blue.....it was a horrible looking amp...but....i didnt paint the heatsink...it was just the top cover....

thats what i was worryed about was something shorting out when i was taking it out.can i really paint it while the board is still in it.im also not going to just use paint.im having it powder coated if i have it done.anyone know anyone i could have powder coat it?

you can powdercoat it but chances are the amp will short like he said powder coat would be better than paint IMO.

my brother painted all 11 of his amps in his windstar to match the car but he is all sql so he doesn't generate massive heat.

You CAN NOT powder coat it with the board still attached. When powdercoating they bake the enamal on in an oven.Just paint it.It your prep is good you won't have to many problems with peeling and crackling.I have painted a couple amps and neither have done that.

Just leave the board in.Tape around it and seal it up good, then paint the heat sink.
