want better sq and having crossover dropout

Okay guys. I'm just a teenager that loves car audio. I'm running a Kenwood hu. Kenwood components in the front, worn out 6x9s in the back. Speakers are running off a Phoenix gold 4 channel. For the lows I have a SA-12 in a Birtch box tuned somewhere between 30-35 Hz. About 1.75 cubes slot ported. That's running off a Kenwood (yes I know) 500wrms amp. My question is how can I make it sound better. I don't have much money to spend right now. The deck has a 5band graphic eq and crossovers for front rear and sub. Everything is tuned pretty well right now but my biggest problem is that somewhere around crossover 70-90 Hz or so the bass almost completely drops out then it picks back up a bit from the speakers. My speakers are set to 70hz and the sub is set to 100 or 120. Yet for the life of me I cannot get a flat response. It drops out. What should I do? Buy an external eq? Sub not broken in? Polyfill the sub box? Its a hatchback btw. Thanks guys! Sorry for the long post.

They were neither up until recently. Long story short I put 6.5" components in doors designed for 4" in stock boxes. I finally got it sealed with the speaker grill more or less, but no they are not deadened. I'm trying to save weight though for speed purposes.

Lol its not that I'm trying to save weight as much as I just don't want to add anymore to it. Its a mkiii supra. So you guys think that if I dynamat my doors it will fix that drop out?

Yeeeaahh, **** those mkIVs! MKII and MKIII ftw! I hope it's the 1jz?

also, just try playing around with your crossover points first? If that doesn't fix it, deaden the doors. It's worth doing anyway.

Drops out of what, front speakers or sub or both? Are you using the hipass and lowpass filters on the HU or the amp or both?

Which way is your sub facing... You have. A much better chance of filling that gap with a sub than you do a midbass.. also try flipping the phase on your sub and see if that helps. Just switch the pos and neg wires.. deadening your doors won't add much bass down that low. So are your mids in a sealed pod behind the door or vented into the door
