I am running too much power to my W6s and its a matter of time before one of my friends hits the volume too much and blows them. so, im thinking of moving to a sub with pretty much the same characteristic but can handle the power. The sub that came to mind was Diamond Audio TDX 12" but what do you guys think? based off of my current system (in sig) what would you do? another reason i like the TDXs is cuz ive heard them handling 1500watts so if i wished i could get another 1000.1 and have a insane loud system compared to wut im running now

My guess is that box is tuned pretty high like 36-40 hz and if you do not have the subsonic filter set correctly you could easily bottom the subs out. I would set that filter to 30hz to 32hz. Also if you are using the bass knob on that amp it can easily overdrive your subs or clip the signal. Especially if you have the bass eq set to a small freq range and then you boost that range with the knob it could be trouble, especially if the freq range is below the tuning of that box.

That is a great amp and very powerful and those subs are great as well but not to be pushed too hard like you said. Those Diamonds are pretty good from what I hear but also take a look at:

adireaudio.com the 12 inch Brahma

reaudio.com the Se's Sx's and the xxx's.

does this sound like your box?

12"

16" h X 18 1/4" d X 34" w

Box Tuning - 38 Hz (ZV212-1538)

yep that sounds like my box, ive brought my system to the pople that installed it many time, they spent literly hours trying to tune the amp and my deck, nothing seems to work, they just seem to be too over powered thanks for the input. whats the wait time on the RE XXXs or the Bramahas??

That was what I was thinking Bonesninja. If they have everything wired in parallel it would be at 1 ohm, that amp is not supposed to be at 1 ohm. I tried my Brahma wired to 1 ohm to a 500/1 and it started to pop and sound horrible at high volumes, I took it out and rewired it to a 4 ohm load and all those sounds went away. Try wiring the subs in series so that they are 8 ohm per sub then wire the subs from the amp to each other in parallel, giving you a final 4 ohm load. I thought for sure that the amp could go to one ohm which is .5 below what is recommended but mine could not. Try this and get back to us.

the installers have changed everything with the wiring before, but nothing works, doing it how you said u can turn it up more but not to the max, they were thinking that the subs were messed up but i just left them alone...should i change the subs?

bottoming out with only about 500-550 watts into them, must be a box issue, cuz i know the w6 can take up to 600watts, have u tried a sealed enclosure?

I agree maybe a sealed would work better, what size box does JL recommend for the ported box? Could have a nasty peak on it, maybe the amp is clipping? I dont think going from 2 12s to a single 12 would satisfy you... even if it is a uber woofer.

supposedly the box was built for the sub, atleast thats wut the guy told me. and i wouldnt go from two to one, i was gunna buy two no matter wut, ive even thought about buying another w6 and run 3 off the amp

well my friend has 2 w6's runnin off a 1000.1. hes had it for a looong time now and its given him no problems. so somthin in the install has to b wrong

whats the specs on a RE MT 12"? like how much air space it needs how much power it needs, etc.
mt's are mainly for spl--no warranty included from the factory(according to re's website) if i were you i would check the way your subs are wired--it seems to me that they either have em wired at 1 ohm or something and thats bad news. and if you don't like it now --don't add another sub cuz you REALLY won't like it. all in all--sounds like a wiring issue or else the settings on the amp just aren't set right. either way go get a second opinion before peelin out more dough.

Check the gains on your amp. Your situation sounded exactly like mine when I first installed and tuned my system. Everytime I had the 9835 turned up past 20 the sub would start to bottom out. The thing was the gain was set a little to high. I turned the gain down to 1/4 of the way up and now it hits clean and hard as hell. Plus I can turn the volume up to 30 and still no bottoming out or no clipping. Although my setup is in a custom sealed enclosure 1.25 cu ft per sub off of a Nakamichi PA-8001 thats at 1000watts rmsx1 @ 1ohm. You may also want to double check your wiring like what HAVINGFUN mentioned earlier. The 1000/1 cant see a 1ohm load.
