Volume Issues!

Hey Guys, Noob here reporting for duty.

Well last nigth I finally got around to building my sub box. Its a 1.9 cu ft sealed enclosure. Its housing an Inifity 1030w 10" sub. (250rms 1000peak, 4ohm SVC) Driving it is an Infinity 310a amp (116w X 1 at 4 ohm, 311w X 1 at 2ohm). In all four corners are Infinity 5002i 5.25" coxaial drivers

The head unit is an Alpine CDA-9811. Everything sounds fabulous, nice an deep lows, very smooth. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wacky.gif.cf4a48f9e6dfe9504ffd2c946fd2f340.gif

The problem is that I have to have the amp cranked, max boost, max input level, and +15 sub on the head unit in order for the sub to play at the same volume as the rest of the system. I know that having the gain on the amp turned all the way up all the time is not good for it, hence me not wanting to do it.

The amp has a two channel output, even though its only a mono amp. Right now, i'm just hooked up to one side (one +ve, one -ve) of the amp. Would briding these connections do anything for my problem? (As in sub to +ve, -ve to +ve, then -ve to sub)

If you guys have any other suggestions, or things I sould check, please tell me!

Thanks a bunch, you guys are much more mature than other stupid car forums on the inet!

IMO, simply that is not a good amp for that sub. Right now you are only sending the sub 116w...which isn't a whole hell of a lot.

And if that amp is the same as the JBL amps, don't bridge it. The outputs are probably parallel internally, which would mean you would have an effective 1ohm load on the amp (each output would "see" 2ohms, then paralleled internally for a 1ohm load, which the amp isn't stable too).

Thats what I thought about bridging it.

So you say that you don't think the amp has enough power, and by looking at the numbers I would agree fully. But, right now, I don't have my back speakers installed which enables me to control the relative volume of the front speakers by fading the HU to the back. This way I can achieve a good balance between sub and speakers, (Which I won't be able to do once I have the backs installed) and the sub can easily play and very high volume levels, (Well to me at least, I can't imagine what a 1200 watt system with 2 12" sounds like! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/offwall.gif.29a91b9b265d47af4b8e33fc5b558d18.gif )

But thanks for the help!

From what you say, you need to max everything out in order for it to play that way though. That is a sign of not enough power (or too high of expectations, which doesn't sound like the case here).

Hmm. Okay, Well since i'm still within my 30 days that I have to return the sub, do you think I would be better off with a DVC driver? (IE the 1032w, pretty much exactly the same, but DVC) The is listed to be able to push 312w or something at 2ohms. Do you think that would help compensate?

Thanks.

1.9 cubes sealed for a single 10? Sounds like that box is pretty big to me, unless the infinity calls for that much space. You could stick some PVC pipe in there and turn it into ported //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yeah, it called for a .75 ft^3 box, but I made a bigger one because I wanted to increase the efficiency of the driver. I'm not sure how much I would like a ported box, I really hate the noise of air rushing in and out of the port. But of course I could always plug it if I disliked it.

Oh yeah, how many hours of use until I can consider the driver "broken in"?

Thanks.
