Hey all,
So I used to have a 250w @ 4 ohm RMS amp that was causing slight dim while idling. Then I replaced it with a Sony Xplod 800w max 2-channel that did 340w @ 4 ohm RMS bridged, I got the Sony for $30 used from a buddy.
A week ago the Sony crapped out on me, but while it did work it was also causing some light dimming. This is very strange with such low powered amps, is it not?
I didn't check the grounds because I had it professionally installed, could that have been the problem? Even though both of them were installed by two different shops.
I have a 95A alt and a stock batt and my AP APSM-1500 is on the way to replace/upgrade my Sony that crapped out. Will it be able to be supported by my electrical?
Keep in mind I did do the Big 3 with some 4 AWG wire I had laying around, but I'm fairly certain it's mostly aluminum, should I replace it with 4 AWG OFC?
Just confused on why a couple hundred watts would cause dimming. I'm worried that the new amp will cause dimming even more so, what can I do to fix this? For like 500 watts RMS @ 4ohm on the new amp that's coming, I really don't want to have to buy a new HO or Battery(ies?), because it's an entry-level low-powered daily rider, and I don't want to spend all that money on electrical for a few hundred watts.
Could use some help here, what could be causing the problem with all this dimming and what-not, and will my new amp be ok on stock electrical? Keep in mind I'll be running it @ 4ohm with two 8ohm subs in parallel so it shouldn't be too hard (Not like I'm running it at 1ohm or anything).
