voicecoil wiring options

Quad coil ?

Know mattj has a quad RE XXX diagram around somewhere. But ...

Parallel - Individual impedance divided by 4 = final impedance.

Parallel/Series - Individual impedance = final impedance.

Series - Individual impedance times 4 = final impedance.

Check http://www.respl.com ---> Tech ---> Wiring ---> Quad for the actual diagrams.

what about wiring up 1 2ohm sub at 2 ohms?? I did not see a diagram for that. I am getting a 12" XXX and putting a PG Tantrum 1200.1 on it which is 1400x1 @ 2ohms.

kymfa, as much as I really like your avatar, I think it screams profanity and as a moderator, I would have to ask you to change it, if you will. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

so its not possible to wire a 4 ohm amp, to a 4 ohm DVC sub?
Sure you can....wire the VCs in series for 8ohms //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

But seriously, you can wire only one VC, but that's not recommended because it will change everything about the sub. The recommended box sizes will no longer be right, etc etc etc.

So pretty much your options would be to wire the coils in parallel for 2ohm mono (which the amp can't handle), wire them in series for 8ohm mono (which wouldn't give a whole lotta power out of the amp), or buy a 2 channel amp and put one coil on each channel.

so say i buy a 2 channel amp, and if its bridged, it gives... 400 watts @4ohm

If i put one coil on each channel would which would be...... 200 watts @ 2 ohm x2

would that give a 4 ohm dvc sub 400 watts total?

A 4ohm DVC has two 4ohm coils. A 400w RMS amp will likely give you 100w x 2 @ 4ohm (unless it's one of those stupid JL/PG amps). So the sub would only get 200w.

why only 100 x2? my PPI has

ppi22222.bmp

and the 2nd part, it says i can make it so its 8 ohms? im just trying to figure this stuff out, so i can wire the stuff myself next time

I hate to jump in but this is an issue I have also.

With my ARC amps I have 120X2 @ 2ohms

or 240x1 @ 4 ohms

I wanna run IDQ12 DVC subs (1 amp per sub)

can I wire it either way..2ohm style or 4ohmstyle and is either way more prefferable??

It says it can handle an 8ohm load, not that it can output that power into an 8ohm load. Basically it's telling you that your amp won't blow up if you run it anywhere from 2-8ohm stereo and 4-8ohm bridged, it doesn't mean you can make it put out 240w @ 8ohm. That's what the "@ (x)ohm" next to each power specification means......it will put out 60w x 2 @ 4ohm per channel. If you run 8ohm per channel, then the power output would only be 30w/channel.
