About 3 or 4 years ago I started getting into vinyl. I owned a turntable that was valued at around 10 bucks LOL. So I never got to hear them even close to their potential. But I kept collecting LPs anyway knowing I would someday find a good table that I could actually listen with. Well, this week I purchased a Denon DP-300F. VERY FAR from high end but much better than what I had. In other words its a decent little entry level turntable and of course I can always upgrade the cartridge at a later date.
That being said I get it home and hook it up listen to some clean vinyls and I REALLY know what the audiophiles see (or hear) in this format. CD is NOT even close to this format. The soundstage is perfect (assuming the recording was done well). I'm hearing things in the music I've NEVER heard before and I'm talking about music that I've listened to for more than 20 years. The realism of an acoustic guitar is unmatched and the placement of the rest of the instruments is consistent throughout the recordings. Vocals that you would swear the vocalist is in the room with you. I have to say............I've fallen in love with music all over again. The only bad thing is that I can't take vinyl into my car with me. But that's ok I'll live with that.
Most people these days frown on vinyl because it's an old format. Or that the maintenance isn't worth it. Or they don't want to hear the clicks and pops. Or that the matrixed stereo is inferior to CD's discrete stereo (complete BS). Or that it isn't a portable format. Or that it just isn't practical. I'll agree it isn't practical in today's world but when I sit there and clean an LP with a brush it is MORE than worth it when I set that LP on the turntable and listen. To those of you that either never have or never intend to listen or try this format you are missing out on the best consumer music format EVER!! Not the most convenient, not the most user friendly and definitely not the cheapest. Mobile Fidelity LPs go for a lot on ebay these days. But definitely sonically superior. If anyone on this forum has a chance to listen to vinyl on a decent home system, please do yourself a favor and at least listen to a few songs. You will NOT regret it.
