Vinyl question please help

Alright so heres the deal.. I have a box that goes in the hatch of my Firebird.

my question is I want the box to have a gray vinyl top so it matches the interior a little better, and will look nicer..

heres a picture of the box.

could I just buy some gray vinyl and wrap it over the existing carpet on the box and just staple it to the bottom..

the box has a big "lip" so to speak that just so it fits in the hatch.

could this be done? or is it bad to wrap vinyl over existing carpet? the carpet is really thin also.

I wouldnt because you haev to heat the vinyl to make it lay good and smooth. and doing it over carpet which it COULD be done i think it will look bumpy and not look as smooth as it would laying on wood.

if you can pull it super tight without heating it it could work. but as was said, even with lots of spray adhesive it may still look bumpy laying on top or carpet.

Take the carpet off and then wrap the box in vinyl....much better results.

yes pull carpetvoff, clean and sand all exiting glue off, perfect every little piece will show thru, then wrap

And when you put the subs back in, put them in the right way so the "kenwood" on the amp and subs are facing the same direction lol

Using some type of padding under the vinyl will eliminate bumps.
