my reason for asking is because im going to be getting a box built for my 2000 cougar (hatchback) and dont want any port noise

You can get both to sounds smooth and have very good response without port noise. It's a little easier with aeros though. Just more expensive if you need a lot of 4"+. I've heard with the proper amount of aeros, you could get a little louder... Idk

A vent is a port, and vice versa. Your question is pertaining to vent shape, being round or square?

It is all preference. I do not like using round because generally all the air around the port would be dead and you must accomodate the size of your enclosure to make up for that space. It is convenient to reuse them and change tuning, however.

Ironic since your ava is of an aero-ported box.

As for OP, like everyone else is saying, it's all about preference.

I like Aeroports because they save A LOT of space, so if you're cut for room, an aeroport well help out a lot vs a slotted port.
