using resistors with subs

i have a dvc kicker comp vr 12, wired for 2 ohms total impedance. my amp isn't 2 ohm stable, and i'm assuming it's going into protection mode once it gets too hot, then will come back on, and turn off again. anyway, i was wondering, being as my box is a huge pain to take apart, and i don't really want to wire in 8 ohms, is it possible to just put a 2 ohm resistor in series with the speaker wire, to raise the total impedance up to 4 ohms?

do it right. why **** with it 10 times for a resistor instead of doing it once with rewiring it. If you really want to half *** it I wouldent see why you couldent.

lmao, get a new amp or wire it different.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

because this is not the intended use of a resistor, and they wont work in this application. they will burn up with heat.
if he wants to half *** it let his shit **** up. If hes stupid enough to do it, he kinda deserves it. Sorry, I didnt know you couldent do it, it has never crossed my mind to do it so I wasent sure.

no its not possible.
there is not a resistor large enough to handle that kind of current. not to mention, you would be giving the woofer the same amount of power as it would recieve wired at 8 ohms...
They do, but it would be gigantic, and quite expensive.

And as hoss stated, the resistor would be receiving half the power and the woofer would be receiving the other half.

Buy a new amp, or a new sub.

You can get big enough resistors for this application made specificly for amp testing, but they are large and expensive.

The sub is still only going to see about the same as the 8ohm power roughly.

this 100 megaohm resistor might work //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
