Hello all,
I have a 1999 Sable LS with my aftermarket audio equipment installed. I had to revert back to the stock stereo after having my Alpine CDE-100 as the headunit. The headunit wasn't the problem, it was the flimsy dash kit that broke. Some of you may know about these Taurus/Sable's that have the climate control and radio integrated into one unit. Its Ford's stupid engineering is to blame once again..
I finished hooking up the stock stereo today, RCA's and remote are ran. I am having a problem with the remote wire though. I tapped into the wire for the power antenna to use as a remote. It works fine when turning the radio on, but when the radio is turned off, I get a loud thump from my sub and speakers. This thumping isn't related to the amp, and I can tell you why. When my Alpine was installed, there never was any thumping whatsoever. So I know for a fact that its the stock stereo.
From what I can see, it looks like the amp is staying on for a few seconds after i press the OFF button on the radio. If it was in sync like aftermarket radios, then there wouldn't be an issue. If I can find a way to have the amp shut off immediately after the radio is turned off, I think problem will be solved.
One of my proposed ideas is to use the PAC TR4 module. It claims to be a low-level trigger than can be used with speaker leads. I ordered one today, and it should arrive soon.
Your input is appreciated,
