I've got some of the standard charcoal box carpet lying around and was wondering if I could use that as fabric to make a glass amp rack? It's the kind with no backing so it streches real well and be easily shaped. Thanks for the help.

I have never had good results using carpet. It doesn't seem to hold the resin very well. Plus the heat during curing tends to melt the carpet fibers. I buy the scrap fleece from walmart. You can get it really cheap that way. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yeh, unless soaked in resin, i dont think it would hold very well.. fleece works very well, as does any clothing, heh..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

"Box carpet" is also called "trunk liner" and is a great material to use.

I know the guys on the Yahoo group "glassman's custom forum" use it almost exclusively.

If it stretches well and is not cotton, go for it - you should do fine.

yeh, i am thinking of the real thick stuff.. not the prefab cheaper carpet.. the carpet i use is way to thick, and wouldnt even be worth wasting resin on.. fiberglass or fleece would be more suitable. But using that thiner "automotive" carpeting should be just fine (ill have to try it sometime)

Thanks for the advice. There is a Wal Mart that's not too far out of the way on the drive home from work I will probably pick up some fleece and use that and save the carpet for another time.
