Using amp/car speakers in my home?

How would one go about trying to run a car amp in a room at home? I realize I'd need some sort of power supply to convert ac wall power to dc power for the amp, but where would I find such a device?

I have a couple old amps running around, as well as a few old decent speakers, and think I would like to see about setting it all up in a gameroom in my house. I used to have a car amp/subs wired up in my dormroom few years ago, but the power supply was for an old cb radio or something, and wasn't powerful enough. I had to keep the gain fairly low or it would hit/cut off. Hit/cut off. I don't really remember how the wiring went for it either. I'll be trying to run two amps, so I think I'll need to get a lot of power to them.

How would you go about mounting 6.5 coax speakers in a room? Would I be able to build a small box for them, or should I just mount them on a board and let them be "free air"?

Alright thanks my friend

How do I figure out what wattage I need? I'll be trying to run a jl audio 300/4 and a cheap sony xplod 1000 watt 2-channel. Which is actually like 150 watt rms or something I think.

4 coax's off the jl, and 2 12's off the sony

There's ways to do it, but I always have to ask when someone mentions doing something like this.

Why don't you just sell all that stuff, get a few hundred bucks (plus the money and time you'll spend rigging this stuff up) and go buy a stereo made for inside?

You can buy a decent surround home speaker system for a few hundred bucks that will sound better and you won't have to worry about something catching fire and burning your place down.

Amazon sells a few, but I'm to lazy to do much searchin.

Don't think I could get enough for an old Sony xplod amp or a 4 channel amp with only 3 good channels to bother with selling them. And its all just lying around. If someone wants any of that or some pioneer 12s pm me lol

Honestly bud that's a pretty heavy draw, your looking at something like a 1500 watt power supply which I doubt you will find in PC power supplies....what you need to get a is a AC to DC dedicated power supply, its a box that his a positive and negative bolt, you can generally just goggle ac/dc power supplies, but ill warn ya its gonna require some bank

u can put a car baattery in your house and throw a charger on it when it dies //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

install in my camper since it has a DC powersource!
Much better idea, although I can tell you from experience. A generator or being plugged in to a power source is the only way to go if you wanna run stereo stuff in your camper/trailer. My trailer has 2 deep cycle batteries and if I run our stereo and tv it'll kill both batteries in about 15 minutes.

Its always plugged in when I'm staying in it. And there is a battery maintainer on it all the time. I only really use it in RV Parks where there is full hookup. When I wanna rough it I'm in a sleeping bag on the ground lol
