Ok guys, I need your help on this one. I am about to move in with 2 friends to an apartment pretty much right on a college campus. I am used to parking in a garage every night at my house.

The apartments we are looking at seem to be very nice on the inside, but I am not too sure about the parking. I mean my truck will be directly outside my window in sight and I have an alarm with a 2-way, 2 sirens, tint, etc... I am just very worried about leaving it out in the parking lot every night. I will not be "bumping" my system anywhere near the apartments either. I'm going to get insurance on all the aftermarket stuff, and everything will be bolted down, (sub box extremley heavy) The apartment is nice but seems to be very cheap for what it is. There are lots of cheap cars in the lots, and the lot looks a little more run down then some apartment parking lots at least to me, not to my friends though. Keep in mind that I am VERY paraniod about my car, on all occasions.

Basically, I am not making a thread about how to not get broken into. I just want some oponions on this. I know there are lots of college kids who live in dorms on this board, and probably people that live in apartments too. Should I be stressing this much over it (enough to back out of the deal)? I have heard stories from friends that live down there of cars getting broken into/stolen. Not in my particular complex, but a few miles down the road.

Help me, I want to move in very badly, but this is the ONLY thing holding me back.

My bro lives in some apartments near his college. He has a 2003 Maxima tint no real alarm and whatnot. Since he has 2 roomates they have to alternate the spot and park down the street. I really woulden't worry unless the neighborhood is known for people getting janked.

You should be fine with the 2way and tint.

Yea true, I mean I don't know anyone that lives in this particular complex, the lady at the desk said she has never heard of any break-ins (she lives in the complex).

**** you are paranoid. Don't stress so much over it. You are getting insurance on your stuff anyway. Just do what you plan on doing and keep the system low/off when you are around your place, on campus (theives will scope out your stuff and follow you from there to your place), or wherever you are going....

Ask your local police department and your neighbors about break ins. they usually know.

i know how you feel though my girlfrind lives right near campus and my vehicle does not blend in. So far i've been save, but im only there a few hours at a time.

I just don't know if it is worth it to move there, or just wait and find someone else/another place. I really want to move in with my 2 friends, and they are pretty much set on this place. I am just thinking though, how much safer will I feel at just another apartment, I'm sure I will still be paraniod.

just know the neighborhood. if it's a crappy area, good chance of getting broken into. remember, if someone really wants to break in, they will. alarm or not.

Yes this is what I am scared of. I went to the apartments tonight to see what it was like at night, and it seemed pretty quiet. It is about half college kids and the other half is other people.

There also seemed to be a lot of open parking spots, and not a ton of cars there. Don't know if this is good or bad or means anything for the matter...

i wouldn't worry too much. i live in a military barracks, i'm more afraid that some drunko will crunch up my truck than yoink stuff outta it. or someone will play a prank by messing with my ride. prior to me putting a cap over the bed, guys would throw all kinds of crud into there.

Thank god there is always at least one of my friends drunk outside my apartment complex. So im sure they would see if anyone was trying to break into my car. Plus an alarm would drive away most thieves.

Look at it this way......you get insurance so you want have to worry about these things.....you should be worrying about classes and not your system.......lol......if someone wants your system that bad.......they will follow you home, snatch you out the car, take your isht at gun point and leave you there. So, I wouldn't worry about it to much and its a good idea not to turn your system up where you live. I live in some apartments and they are in a rather nice area, but there are always some people that look suspect, so its about time for me to get the tint and alarm before I buy my system next week.

Google for apartment reviews; I wish I had before I rented my place.

A murder, a *******, I've seen slashed tires, they don't salt the sidewalks, etc.

At any rate; I have like 3/4 of a car's length driveway, and the drive across from me is like 1.5 carlengths; and I rented the most expensive apartment they have.

So make sure you ACTUALLY VISIT THE ACTUAL APARTMENT you'll get and inspect it.

Mine is nothing like the model.

At least it has a garage; Unfortunately, it's full of Prelude.

I just searched for it and only 30% of the reviewers reccomended it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif . I am almost leaning towards no now...

you should be good, just don't bump your system around where you live, but what was said is true, if they want it that bad, they'll get it one way or another.

Just bump responsibly, you should be just fine.
