My mom is looking for a good used car. Right now she has a 98 Toyota Camry 4cyl that dads going to take as his road car when she buys something. She liked the Camry allot, but is ready for something newer. Her price range is 16k max. Shes looking for a nice low-mileage, mid-large size sedan. No Cadillacs or old lady cars though. Like to get something in the 2005-06 model year range.

Hyundai Sonatas look nice. 3.3L 235 hp, 0-60 in under 7, and decent styling/warantys. I can get 2006's of these local, with under 30k miles off a lot for under 15k. Read good reviews from Car&Driver, etc, as well.

Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Have you considered new Accords or Camrys? I would imagine with the end of the year coming they will be looking to get rid of the 07's they have left. I believe both these cars new without being maxed out in options are somewhere near your price range.

I do like the Hyundai but you have to remember the resale value on it will be shit in 5 years.

I think it's just pushing 80k. The reason shes getting something else is because Dad's work car (97 Cav) just hit 300k, and hes worried about it breaking down on him. He was going to buy her something newer, and use her Camry as his new work car.

I found a 2006 Accord 4cyl, with 30k (same as the Sonata) for 18k...a couple grand out of her price range. Perferably looking for something in a V6. Looked at 2005 Subaru Legacys with the turbo 4cyl, and 3.0's, but they run a little steep too at around 18k.

omg that is crazy, 300k, no new engine durin all those miles?
Nope. Still looks great. No rust at all. Had to replace the water pump, a couple alts, and a serpantine belt stiffiner, but other than that hes had no major problems. Just getting so many miles though now that he realizes its just a matter of time. Been using it to commute an hour to/from work for about 10 years now. Hwy miles ftw.

I was very bent on getting a camry or accord when I was looking for a car. I went out on a limb and tried something different.....this. I was surprised quite a bit. It's quick, got alot of nice extras, and it's quiet as hell. It's alot of car for the price. I've even had Hyundai haters drive it and they love it lol. Bottom price out the door - before I added stuff, I got mine with 14700 miles/ $13500.
