Upgrading to 200a soon. A few questions

How much power?

And yes...your stock electronics will be fine. They will only draw what they need so they won't be getting any more. You could probably run up to 2000 rms easily without seeing big volt drops. I'm running 1400 with just the stock battery and a HO alt, and playing a wave I only drop to 11.9 at idle. Normal music and idle I only drop to 12.3.

yeah, i know it's a bit overboard for the mere 1.2-1.5k i'll be running, but i will have 0 worries about drops //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

thanks guys

dont feel bad

I have dual alts pushing 400 amps peak and Im only running a 200 watt front stage amp

better to over do the electronics for future upgrades than to wait until its too late, it seems like the money runs out for electrical upgrades if you wait to do it

A bigger alt just give you the abilty to recharge your batteries at a higher rate. With larger systems you still need plenty of battery in reserve to power the system. The performance chart on the alt will tell you its output at idle and in its peak zone usually 2000 RPM. The increased charging ability will not harm your electrical system. I would look at what your stock alt does at idle vs. you new alt and guage if it is worth it. IMHO when upgrading to a Hi amp alt I would opt for a 250a or more that way you will get more like 175 amps at idle and the full 250 at 2000 rpm.
