upgrade from eclipse 8445

That's how i used my DMP1. The screen stopped working after less than 3 months. The dmp1 seriously blows nuts. Buy at your own risk. Be prepared to want to buy an empeg afterwards -- i thought just like you "hey! i could get 3 of these for an empeg"...guess what? I bought one dmp1 and decided it was well worth the cost for an empeg...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif The lack of a DIN slot is a problem, though. Be warned, though, not mounting the faceplate resulted in mine breaking..and i was meticulously careful with it.

Also, it's not PAUSING to choose more songs...it's STOPPING. You have to stop playing the current song, then select the next one. And you HAVE to do that, if the next track doesn't happen to be in the same genre/hierarchy that the current one is in. The dmp1 doesn't support playlists at all...it just supports a basic folder hierarchy...select folder, play all inside...just like your deck.

The wireless support from the DMP1 sucks also...with the custom kernels it never worked right, and with the original it never worked right. Go figure //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

It is strange that there are no other alternatives...but consider this; when the Empeg Riocar was released in 1999/2000, it cost just under 1000$ retail. For the 20gb one. 370$ for a 60gb with an extra drivebay free for another up to 120gb drive (and you could replace the original 60gb with another 120gb giving you 240gb right there) is a great deal //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif The prices on the empeg dropped through the floor after they were discontinued...a know 2 people that bought TWO of them; they are that convinced that they will not be replaced by anything better in the near future. And to their credit, they bought theirs 4 years ago...and 4 years later, there still isn't anything NEAR comparable to the empeg.

like i said, there's gotta be another solution in between or more newer model that a company makes? i mean this solution you'd think would be so brain-dead obvious, although i just thought of it till now! even though i've kinda always thought of it like most i never really put the thinking to research.

like are the real ONLY solutions, kenwood jukebox, empeg, and omnifi?

I would still like to play this all from my deck with JUST a hdd, i dont' care about the interface if i can still use my eclispe deck for hte interface, know what i'm sayin?

whoa that's great man, got me really looking. What about the kenwood Keg or the Onmifi dmp1? looks like a dmp2 was suppose to come out but didn't?

I don't know if there's any other alternatives, but the wireless ability of it is really cool instead of dragging the box inside to update or taking a laptop to your car to transfer if you can do it all wireless that's pretty cool especially when i'm updating my songs weekly.

I don't konw why the Rio car is that much more expensive than the Onmifi dmp1? What other alternatives are out there? and the wireless ability is definately something i would be interested in. Thanks for your input man! really helped.
I have a keg if your interested.
