Unusual engine noise issue

so im getting a lot of engine noise for some reason. the strange thing is, it only happens when my the second set of rca's is connected to my amp.

im running a 3-way setup with 1 set of rca's for my components and 1 set for my sub. the wierd thing is, if one set of rca's is in, i have absolutely no engine noise. but if the second set is plugged in it gets pretty excessive. it does not matter which rca's are plugged in, either one i remove, removes the engine noise.

this is what ive checked so far:

- ground to amp (grounded to battery because battery is in trunk)

- ground at headunit (regrounded to headunit chassis with no difference)

- tested with another amp and get the same exact result

my power wire is not run along side the rca's as the battery is in the trunk. although the rca's do run passed the fuse box to the rear of the car.

the only thing i havent tried is another set of rca's.

any ideas?

well it ended up being the rca's themselves. i found another set to test with and the extreme engine noise disappeared. i still have slight engine noise but it may be becuase the rca's were radioshack brand

this recently happened to me, i just put in new rca's and it solved the problem

edit: opps i just seen you figured it out. lol same thing went wrong here,,, **** rcas

what brand did you have? these were brand new knu rca's.

just wanted to give an update. i went and bought some rca's off of monoprice.com. i saw some good reviews on here from people so i thought id take a chance since they were less than $3 a set for 12ft cables.

i must say, these are some quality cables. not flimsy or delicate at all. hooked them up and they removed ALL engine noise. i had tested with some brand new radioshack rca's and the excessive noise was gone but i still had a little bit of noise. the monoprice ones COMPLETELY eliminated all engine nose. very impressed especially since i spent less than $10 for 2 sets!
