unOfficial 2008 alpine iDA-X--- series HU thread

Has anyone found a HD (or another affordable) mass storage solution for the X100, or I am going to have to buy a stack of 8 GB thumbdrives and label them?
I loaded a 250GB SATA drive into this enclosure http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=016426&cid=516.551 and it works fairly well. There are a couple of issues however:

  • When I shut the truck off and restart it, the hard drive restarts back at the first song on the hard drive (a real piss off) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif:verymad:
  • jumping from album to album takes 10-15 seconds
  • advancing a track is immediate, but going back one track seems to take about 5 seconds:confused:

I don't notice any of these issues with a memory stick. For the most part it isn't bad, when on longer drives, but around town it downright sucks.

You may want to try the Western Digital Passport hard drive. My x001 reads my 160gb passport with no problems.
OK, I'm looking at amazon.com. Which Passport do you have? The "Essential", "Elite", or is it just "Passport Portable?" It runs off the single USB cable with no other hook ups required? The HU sees and plays all your music files without a problem?

Also, looking at Amazon.com, I don't see why a western Digital would work and a Maxtor wouldn't. What's the difference? Here's the Maxtor I tried...

XXVANN - Thanks for your input. I love the idea of having 250GB, but the glitches you describe would drive me nuts.

Why not just buy a used ipod on your local criagslist or similar. You can find a 5g 30gig for about $100. This HU is made for an ipod, and it will work seamless.

Believe me, I HATE ipod & apple, I keep my ipod in the car and it stays there, only take it out when I need to add more music. I use a Zen for my mp3 player. And if you hate itunes too, you can use mediamonkey to transfer your music to the ipod, it works great, so no need for itunes on your system.

Just my thoughts.

I never thought of that. I've avoided iPods too, mainly because a lot of my files are CD transfers in WMA format. My whole family has SanDisk Sansa's - I like them because they have SD card slots built in for unlimited expandability.

But I like your idea. I don't care about the iPod interface benefits (cover art, playlists, etc.), but a Creative, SanDisk, or other non-iPod player with big storage would be a good option.

Thanks, I'll look into that too.

The downside to that (for me) is a large percentage (probably at least 1/3 to 1/2) of my digital music is in WMA format. To convert to MP3 would cost me some audio clarity, even though most of my WMA files are 192+kbps.

Just do a mass conversion over night, transfer ALL those WMAs to 320kbps MP3s. Unless you want to keep the WMA format, but yeah that's a bummer. I remember when I first got in to digital music(mp3s) I never payed attention to the ID3 tags. Well after 10k songs and wrong tags, I bought a mp3 player that used ID3 tags, and guess what, everything was wrong:mad: A couple of weeks later, ALL my tags where correct. I guess I am trying to say, just convert all that s //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yep did the same thing.

I wound up converting all my wma files to mp3 at 320kbps and used a neat program to rename all the files that had titles like "unknown album" etc. It took time but was worth the work. I also re-ripped all my cd's to mp3/320kbps...definately worth the effort.

Guess in a way I am glad I only have several hundred songs.

It is definately nice to have every cd and song I own on a hard drive and usb drives. But it can be a pain when I am in an "hmmm what to listen to mode"...lol so many songs to choose from and I don't know what I want to hear.

Has anyone been able to find the KTX-H100 tuning kit? Crutchfield has been saying it was on back order.
Yeah, I am wating for it as well. The funny thing is, when I picked up my x100 from my local dealer, they had the KTX-H100, and this was about a month ago:confused: He wouldn't sell it to me because they only received one.

New here, having trouble creating a wallpaper for my IDA-X100. Heres what I sent USCFAN but incase he no longer visits ill ask yall too.

"Hey, im trying to get a custom wallpaper on my new HU and you seem the most knowledgeable at this. Im pretty much stuck from the start. I downloaded Infranview or whatever and it made a "plugins" folder, how do I open the image in it?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks"
