My bro broke his att phone and has a spare nextel phone he put the sim card in, and asks for the code? anyone know how to get it without paying?

Lock codes are generally four digits by default, usually 9999, 0000, 1234, or the last 4 digits of the cell phone number that it was activated on. Other than that, not sure, it would have been changed by the previous user. If all else fails, go pick up a prepaid gophone for 30 bucks. It wont be fancy, but better than nothing and will work.

Whatever you do, don't keep guessing! Most phones will lock themselves if you miss the unlock code. I have read horror stories about others having to call the manufacturers and such.

What is the phone model? Usually, you can find the unlock codes online fairly easily.

Unlock code is more than likely set by the individual. Also, him saying that reminded me, trying multiple times will lock your sim card, and you will have to go buy a new one for $25.

I might be mistaken but the Nextel Phone won't work on the AT&T network.

Nextel uses iDEN which is different than the digital that AT&T uses...

Usually you cant swap between carriers, but I am not familar with the SIM swaps, so what I was giving would be assuming it was possible. Take it safe and go buy a gophone. You can get a nice one under 100 bucks, with camera, bluetooth, and all. Either than or take a chance on having to buy a $25 sim + new phone.

correct-- iDEN and GSM are not compatible. find an unlocked phone on Ebay.... just make sure that it is US GSM standards and not Euro ( 850/1900 are US compatible ). most GSM handsets here are Dual Band. there are some Euro versions that are Tri-Band ( with the only US band being 1900- the least desirable of the two between 850 and 1900 ) on Ebay.... STAY AWAY FROM THESE. if you can find a Quad Band all the better since it is a truly global phone.
