Ok you guys for electrical for now (second alt comes in tuesday), i'm running one 200 amp alt (110 idle) and 1 yellow top up front (34/78) and 2 deka group 31s in the trunk, i have 1 rd 5750.1 and 2 fully loaded btls dual 1ohm coils, and the amp set at a 1 ohm load, and my gain is set like this slash ( \ ) except a lil lower & no bass boost, with voltage drops to 12.48, , cd player is a alpine cda 9886 bass is turned all the way down to negative 7 (lowest number) volume is turned to 27 for tuning, and my subs are getting hot as hell, i'm thinking its because of my electrical but idk anyone wana take a guess at it

If you have a 5kW amp, there's really no excuse not to find someone with an oscilloscope so it can be set properly //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

That's a lot of power to not know what's going on...

yeah i'm looking for someone in my area who has one now, one shop wanted to charge me 200 just for them to put it on there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif so i'm calling around right now, but just wanted to see what you guys think

u should of punch the shop dude in the stomach.

u can buy a handheld oscope for less than 200 lulz

go buy one locally somewhere and return it or something if no one in ur area has one lolz

actually my city isn't that big, and i think that audio shop is the only one that has a oscilliscope, i was trying to purchase one, but some people were telling me that some of them a pos, i was asking around about the velleman handheld that parts express has to see if it was ok, but no one could give me any responses on that

Turn the gain down?
Don't play it as long?
i did both, i mean with the gain where i had it the subs would play 5 minutes and then would start to warm up, i know it couldn't have been clipping cause after that point even if i gradually increased it some more the bass still would punch harder and be clean

If you are describing your gain setting as looking like this "\" then that tells me you dont have any idea what you are doing with regards to your gain adjustments.
what makes you think so, thats not even half way, and it's a lil lower than that its just a general idea

Because the proper gain setting has nothing to do with 'half way', '1/4 way' or any other arbitrary position. The correct gain position is relative to the signal voltage your h/u produces, and how high you adjust your volume knob. As said above, with the right (or wrong) conditions you could allow your amplifier to clip at even the lowest gain position possible.
A quick search on this forum will reveal more info than I could explain in an hour. Top right corner of the screen.

You can make the amp clip no matter where the knob is set to. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
yeah but clipping=distortion right ? or is clipping not audible to the human ear ?
