well i'mma go try the dmm method right quick, even though i know thats not very accurate
Clipping causes distortion. Distortion is a byproduct of clipping, it is not clipping itself. To be picky.yeah but clipping=distortion right ? or is clipping not audible to the human ear ?
Well if you know how to set the gains using a DMM, I guess Im just confused why you intially told us this \ . Have you verified your DMM with your ears? We are discussing distortion, and I just realized the only symptom described is your subs are getting hot. We cnnot assume there is a correlation, or even that your subs are abnormally hot.according to the dmm method i wasnt' even close to clipping, it was reading 48.9 which 74.16 is the what i should see before clipping
coo i just ordered it, should be here by weds //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gifthe problem with using a DMM, is that it wont tell you if youre clipping, just tell you how many volts youre feeding your sub
and yes that Velleman scope works great
I didn't insist you 'knew nuthin'... I insisted your description of the situation implied you knew nothing. And I was correct. If you set them by ear, I still have to wonder why you told us \ . Its like complaining you got a speeding ticket, and when someone asks how fast you were going, you say "my speedo read \ ". But im not here to argue, it doesn't really matter either way to me. Im just explaining why I made the comment, because apparently I need to.when you smell them there abnormally hot (burn smell), and no i always do my setups by ear, but since you so insisted that i knew nuthin i went out a did a dmm check to make sure my ears wasn't trippin, but anyway
Its amazing you know how to set a gain with a dmm, yet you described your gain setting as a relative position on the knob, absolutely worthless info. And its amazing you 'always do your setups by ear' when you just got done asking us if clipping is audible. Clearly you really know what you are talking about, huh? If you are gonna be a smart *** to people trying to help you, at least be smart. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gifnaw it wasn't a need to do anything, you didn't need to make that comment you made a choice to make that comment, just like you didn't need to come in this thread, you made a choice to come in this thread, since you felt tha so call "need" correct me, i just wanted to correct you on how you was using that word
and there goes one of the smartest and shapest guys on the forum!! most likey the only guy who would have been able to help out a bit more then normal ppl can lol!!Its amazing you know how to set a gain with a dmm, yet you described your gain setting as a relative position on the knob, absolutely worthless info. Good luck with your issue.
actually no-one really help with trying to figure out what the problems was, i asked was clipping audible was to double check myself, cause i was told it was to a certain extent and most of time people buy overrated amps so a dmm would be worthless, and what was worthless about my info, i said deck volume, bass settings, and to if anybody how has had the amp and same amp as me could pretty much have a visual of where the gain was set at, but once again really nobody really helped, if i could put up the responses to this thread side by side with the reponses i recieved on caco, you would see which forum was more helpful in trouble shooting my problemIts amazing you know how to set a gain with a dmm, yet you described your gain setting as a relative position on the knob, absolutely worthless info.
