We just had this whole discussion... The reason the spiders have been failing is because people continue to assume since it has a 3 inch 8 layer coil it should just instantly take 2500 no problem... They rated it at 1000 and not 2000 for a reason... Yes they may take 2500 but it has to be in the right box which may not be the best sounding or loudest....
It depends on how loud you want it. Hdc3's sound good enough to me. The Hdc is a loud hard hitter that will try to tear your trunk off. The X will not hit as hard, but will have good sq. Just 2 Hdc's powered right will impress most people. I'm not really into sq subs unless I'm running 3-4 of them. Even the 2 15 Sdc's got louder than expected.
Fukc AQ. If you arent satisfied with the 1 X, get another... The AQs will get loud, but they will never sound as good as an X. And an MRP is a good amp, they tend to get hot, but are some strong, well built machines. Of course like Bettr said, it would have to be a good price, but I see them on eBay all day! Or even get the new X series Alpine put out.
personally the type x, main reason being im more of an sq guy.........don't make that out to be bad, the type x will still pound.
as for the alpine mrp-m1000 i had two for about 3 months, and it performed great think the actual rating on both of them was just over 1200 at 2 ohms super efficient amp think that its around 70% at 2 ohms
I don't know much about AQ subs, but I can tell you I'm not nearly as impressed with thier amps as I thought I'd be! And that's from my personal experience with them.
I love the features and the looks of AQ but that sums it up IMO.
And I preferred the MRP1000 over the AQ1200d all day long.
