i was sold a 10" type-R with a Q-Logic box. whether it was his intention to F*** me over or not, the internal volume is 1.0 cubic feet. this is much larger (both visually and substantively) than a sealed enclosure that has the recommended 0.65 feet of internal volume.
it was my first sub, and therefore, my first enclosure purchase, so i had no basis for comparison and no way of knowing (and also no reason not to trust the guy).
the box has a weird little feature in that in the back corner (on the top of the box, facing up) it has a circular port that can be unscrewed and opened, thus transforming a sealed enclosure into a rather 'bootleg' version of a ported enclosure.
i currently have a JL 500/1 pushing the type R, but not for long. in a few months, i am going to either upgrade to a JL 10W6v2 in a vented box built to JL's specs or a 12W6v2 in a JL sealed box (also built to spec.)
so i dont wanna go crazy bc its not gonna be that permanent but for the few months that i have, if it will make a diff i will spend $70 and get a Q Logic thats .65 internal vol.
i have heard that sealed enclosures, esp. ones that are larger than recommended, are very forgiving. what kind of change in sound could i expect (increase in SQ i hope). also, would i lose SPL moving to a box with more internal air pressure to push the driver back out (faster i assume).
