Two runs of 4ga

Well, i'm too broke to buy a run of 1/0, so I think i'm going to do two runs of 4g in my car. I already have 1 run, and I have enough 4ga in my room to do another. I need it because I bought a new amp and will be pushing about 2k total watts now.

So my question is, how do I go about splitting the wire up in the trunk? Is there some kind of distro block that will accept two runs of 4ga and come out with 1 run of 1/0 (for larger amp, 1700watts) and 4ga (for smaller amp, 300 watts)?

Or maybe one that accepts two runs of 4ga and comes out with 3? That way I would run two of the 4ga runs to the larger amp and the last one to the smaller.

As you can see i'm a bit confused with my distro blocks, iv'e never used one before so....kinda noob :p.

Thanks

Yea, you can deff pick up a 1/0input to 4g output, and just use 4g for the input, it will still fit. I know someone who has a 4g in, 8g out, and still uses 4g in the 8g output. But yea, if that makes sense, haha. Like I said, just pick up a 1/0input to 4g output and you will be fine.

Just find a distro with large enough ports so that all of your wiring will fit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif You can put the 4 awg into the 1/0 ports if needed. If you want to get creative, you can make your own little distro block and connect all the wires together using ring terminals.

For my highs there was just some 4ga laying around the shop so I ended up taping 2 pieces of 4ga together then twisting the ends together and stuffing them in the 1/0 input of a distro. Ghetto but works.

As long as the current has a solid path, youre good.

Okay, need to add a noob question in here:

If someone were to guess, how many watts could these two runs handle in a length of about 15'? I know it's equivalent to a bit less than 1/0 gauge.

Also...iv'e been reading some stuff about the electricity taking the path of least resistance. If this were the case, why doesn't all the power go to one of my wires and not the other (cause I noticed one of the 4ga is noticeable thicker than the other)?

thanks for all the help //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yeah i'm not really worried about what the wire can handle (fused both separately and everything..) just wondering if the run of 4ga i just added will even do anything.

I read somehting saying that if the wires are not the exact same length and brand, all the eletricity will flow through the one that has the lesser resistance. Is this true?

Haha, thanks. I didn't think that sounded right, but just had to make sure.

One more quick question- would running 4ga hurt for like a 2ft length? My 4ga runs are meeting in my trunk, where i'll have the distro block. Could I just run 4ga to each of my amps from there?
