Two batteries for a 1000W sony Xplod, headlights still dimming

I tossed some lower end stuff in a friends truck, Pair of Earth Quake DBX 12's 1000W sony xplod amp. Bought some ****** scosche wiring kit from walmart rated for "1200W" It came with a 6 Gauge power and ground wire. Headlights were dimming extremely bad with a capacitor someone gave me. So I bought a $50 battery from walmart to see if I could get rid of the issue. They don't dim as badly but the dash still dims quite noticeably. What im wondering is if it could be a grounding problem, the second battery is grounded to the seat post, and the amp is grounded to the neg term of the second battery (where the chases ground is connected obviously) I know that its a roody-poo setup, but is the ground the issue?

Dude 2 batteries on a 200 watt Sony amp??

Sounds to me like the alt is bad and cannot maintain voltage even with the tiny extra draw that the Sony amp pulls.

Have the Alt checked out at an autoparts store and return the extra battery.

Agreed with above. There's no reason that small of an amp would be causing the headlights to dim. The alternator stands out as the most possible culprit but check all your wiring and make sure something you did is causing the problem. Almost all auto parts stores will check an alternator for free. The best check is for you to remove it and let them bench test it, but just letting them come out with their electrical system test should get you an idea.

Nothing wrong with sony amps if you get them cheap. I gave my little brother a setup comprised of subs, box, and amp ive found in various trash cans or land fills. 2 12" P1s, 8 gauge power and ground, sony "1000" does about 700-800w id say, it has 2 40a fuses. Its louder than my MRP M500 on the same subs and that will do around 600-650. Sounds like **** though.

And after you get the alt check please take all that equipment out! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
Hes buying it from me for $300 :| I was like u sure bro? apparently it gets all the high school chicks giddy

The setup in his truck is just awful, all but 1 door speaker is blown so you only hear bass, and the subs coils are miss matched, ones a 5ohm and ones a 4, the previous owner duct-taped the speaker wires to the tensile leads on one of the subs. Its a disaster I just want to get away from

Thanks for the information, il tell him to get his alt checked out. But I know he wont :|

just let it run then unhook the positive on battery, if it shuts off its ur alt.
Not a good idea if it's a newer car. It can mess up some of the electronic components in newer cars, I have heard several mechanics say this. But this was common practice to check alts in older vehicles.
