Tweeters in install not loud at all..

Just installed some EDi 6500 component's (my old ones, though they were never hooked up, the tweeters had fallen in dash and install place forgot to rehook them up lol.. but they work) in my friends mustang. we haven't put the mids in yet, just ran wires for everything and made sure amp was on and working by hooking tweeters up to crossover and listening to some music..

Well, at 0 gain, there was no volume from tweeters, and at about half gain, I had to put my ear up to them to hear them over his REAR speakers... but the connections are all good and new RCA's and everything... what's the problem? It shouldn't be because mids aren't hooked up yet cuz the mids run off a seperate output on crossover...

This is on an ED NINe.2 by the way..

You have to hook up the mids as well. With just one driver the ohm load at the crossover is wrong and it feeds the wrong amount of power and the wrong frequecy crossover point to the driver.

Crossovers must work with the drivers they were designed for, no more or less.

Plug in the mids with the tweets and it should be fine.

Awesome that makes sense! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

One more question..

Like I said, in my install only the mids were hooked up to the crossovers..

How come they were plenty loud when it was only them plugged into the x-over but the tweeters aren't when only they are plugged into the x-over?

Is it just the way the x-over is designed?

Thanks fellas..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I guess what he says makes sense although that has never happened to me, I have had just mids or tweets plugged in and it was fine

It just depends on the design of the crossovers. Some will act differently than others depending on what you change. Plug in the other driver and let us know if that fixes it.

It did! DidUHearThat?=Smart //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Thanks so much

wow--- nope, doesn't work that way unless they are playing the same frequencies.

your gains are not volume knobs, but an adjustment that allows you to get the optimum settings from different inputs since they are not all the same.... if you are running passives the crossovers probably reduce the output to the tweeters to match them with the mids, so you need to get get the mids in there and set the gains properly before you will know if anything is wrong.

Tweets/mids will play some of the same freqs unless your xover is severely underlapped or 24dB slopes or higher and I HIGHLY doubt a passive set is doing that. Probably 12dB at best with the mids playing up close to the xover point for the tweeters.

I run active and when I turn off the mids the tweets have very little output compared to how they sound with the mids playing. No different then how much fuller music sounds with the subs on vs off.
