Tweeter Placement Idea

I'm gonna be making door pods soon but I just came up with an idea. I was thinking of where I could place a switch for some CCFL/neon tubes and I came up with one spot on the dashboard. I have a little open area that I can FG a switch into but it would leave like 5.5" of emptiness.. so I'm thinking about mounting the tweeters in the middle of the car, like 3 inches under the faceplate.

Anything wrong with doing that? I figure if I just aim them the right way by wiring the right side tweet to the left side x-over and vice versa it should be good.

Any audiophiles think theres anything wrong with this?

If you want a very, narrow soundstage. Don't think it would be such a good idea. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

hm i guess my best bet is to try it out for myself..

see im not even sure what a narrow sound stage would sound like.. but yet the optimal spot is right next to the midbass right?

Generally, the closer the the mids the better, as long as your mids are placed correctly that is...

Having the tweeters right next to each other, and in the middle of the car, would take away greatly from the stereo sound, as well as focus the general attention directly to that location which would sound very bad... Its like having a pair of headphones with only one speaker.

Not necessarily. Many nice sounding sq installs have mids in the doors or kicks. And the tweeters in a a-pillars. I found in my particular vehicle ( pos tracker ) that having them close together produced the sound I was after //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

hm but the tweeters would be directed at the correct headrests.. i wasnt going to firing them forward - they would aim the same direction as if i was mounting them in the door pod after aiming them with a laser pointer and all that..

also when you see "as long as your mids are placed correctly"

what would that be? or whats the right way to aim the mid

Close together, meaning directly next to each other in the center of the vehicle? I would assume not...

Would these be your only tweeters in the fronstage?

Whether you answer yes or no, it's still not a good idea. But your answer will change the explainations of why it's a bad idea.

In layman hillbilly terms //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

The idea is to get sound from all drivers to meet at your head at the same time. There are a couple different ways to go about aiming the mids. But it depends on whre they are mounted. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The only way to get a real answer is to do it yourself. I wouldnt go fiberglassing them into the center console though, deffinitly get some sticky tape and put them in that location and see how it is, so you dont waste time and money glassing them in there and have it sound like garbage...

Close to the mids //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Oh, I thought you were saying have the individual tweeters close together got you your optimal sound.

Okay //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm old //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I don't believe a center channel has any place in a car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

What kind of tweets ? You may want to use some velcro or something. And temp mount them in different locations. Until you find the sweet spot you want //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
