im hooking up my subs and im wondering if i should actually use 12 gauge wire im using this really thin wire dont know wat gauge but if i use smaller wire is that going to affect the performance of my subs thanks..

12awg is overkill for terminal wiring. If you're using any moderate amount of power, 16awg should do as long as your run is not extra long. I safely ran 16awg from the amp to the terminals 5ft away on ~700watts.

Yes the size of wire does matter. Like has been said, your should be fine with 16awg. Had a friend of mine one time running two 15" using the cheap tiny little wire you get with a cheap home stereo. You know, about the size of the period at the end of this sentence. He couldn't figure out why his subs weren't hitting worth a crap. I told him to change out his wire for a larger gage and it made a WORLD of difference. You could actually hear them.
