Tuning question!

Hey everyone got a really basic questions to ask. I was told by a couple of people that a SQ score and a RTA score are totally different! Is this true? If so how would I tune my car to get an optimal score in SQ comps. I really want to compete this year and keep getting told different things in the city regarding tuning my stereo. Would anyone like to shed some light on this topic?
