Tuning for Sound Quality

So to start i have an Alpine IVA-W505, imprint, an older sony xplod amp, 4 6.5 coaxials, 2 tweeters, and 2 5.25 componants.

SO i started out with the amp lpf set at 300hz, and played a 123hz test tone and when i turned the radio to level 23 the speakers started buzzing, so im guessing 22 is my limit. Then i went to the amp and the filter down, and the speaker where playing louder and not buzzing.

Can some explains this concept to me
