Tuning DLS 6.5's Components. (NEWB)

I recently installed a set of DLS X-SB62's and have about 8 hours on them.

Long story short, I want a decent SQ setup without going all out. I'm a DIYer and wanting to learn so...

Before installation I set my tweeters to -2db and after installation the left side was dominant so I set the passenger side to 0db and it helped center the sound. Is this normal or OK to do?

Next, the mids were placed in the stock speaker location and that's exactly what it sounds like. How can I bring the sound up from the floor without moving the speaker location? To combat this I have thought about adding a set of smaller speakers up and as far foward as I can.

As you can probably see from my post I'm sort of new to car audio but I'm all ears. What can I do with settings to help with moving the sound out, forward, and up?

There's no reason not to center the sound. However stereo sound can be difficult to balance since the levels shift from left to right. It's best to do tuning with a mono track.

Beat advice I can give you is to get a better deck with a good auto eq, that will help your struggles a lot.

Also how you did the installation will play a big roll in how it sounds.

Oh ya... They are currently near the A pillar aiming toward the dome light. The tweeters sound great now that the passenger side is at 0db but, I could move them since they are not permanently placed yet. The mids are what I'm wanting to bring up off the floor.

I'm at my dad's place helping him work on a car and before we got started I asked him to sit in the drivers seat, close his eyes, and to tell me where the music is coming from. For the most part he agreed with moving the sound up but there were a few songs that really surprised him and I that showed there is definitely some potential with my current setup. He was a lot more impressed with the speakers than I was.

BTW West... I'm very aware of the HU. I bought this thing back before I ever thought about audio. Now that i'm in the process of building a decent setup a different HU is in the near future. I have my eye on a few and since I'm still learning what most of you have forgotten, I would like something simple and easy.
