tube amp question

lol it just bugs me that people who claim to be egineers to music people that say things from opinionated data without seeing how it works or how its measured. both forms of amps are measured the same way. hell half the people who listen to tube amps listen to them on speakers so numb that they miss parts of the music. i have a set of wharfedale dj speakers i like alot better than my 1200 dollar b & W book self speakers for this very reason. yes the b & W sounds nice but in noway do they produce the full sounds. everything from guitar thumbing to backround vocals are missed. you colorize it you also take that away. alot of audiofiles would think my favorite set up would be horrible lol it would consist of 2 klipsch pros (the big assed horns with the 15 in each one) and a big adcom or denon solid state amp. if i couldnt get horns i would either go definitive technologies or system audio speakers. or better yet make my own....i firmly stick by what im saying. if you are a tube lover thats fine im not hear to convert you, but you should at least know why the tube does what it does and what it does to speaker voice coils to create that warmth.

in ultra nerdy voice "hey guys you should hear my new tube system" " i play sheryl crow on it i wet myself do to the realism and warmth of her voice" " i think my speakers are in love with her ..it is almost like they are panting with lust" " i am sure that this system is at least .00005% cleaner than my older set up, i can hear the difference!" lolololol

why does a studio recording sound better than a stage or concert? you answer that and you will have answered my meaning to what i said. its better for you to answer it because i am not gonna argue about "intent to sound like" mumbo jumbo. you are argueing subjectively where im argueing objectively. to put it more bluntly i would rather hear what kenny g really sounds like over what he wants to sound like or what his producers want him to sound like......

please explain your live vs. recording comment as it pertains to our discussion, or better yet, the lip-synced compaired to tubed amp comment.
i dont want to put words in anyones mouth with this, but here is what i think he is trying to get at...

a solid state amplifier is going to have a more accurate representation of the sound. it isnt giong to have anything added to it to make it sound different and it is going to be acoustically accurate.

where as a tube amp is going to have the "warm"-ness added to it and it might sound more pleasant to some people. you might find the sound of a tube amplifier more pleasing, but it is not as acoustically accurate as the solid state amplifier.

and a recording, unless a live recording, is always what the artist wants it to sound like. So, if you only like live, you shouldn't listen to albums that aren't live. a live show, and an album are two totally different concepts from most artists POV.

You know, I can't beleive I just read this. It was a somewhat healthy discussion. Anyone else care to participate?

Call me brain-washed, but I really do like the way my tubes sound (home audio) although low frequencies seem to be a tad different from solid state amps in some weird way that I can't explain in words.

since you brought this one back from the graveyard, I'll add my two cents...

To me, tube amps do sound different. There's a smoothness in the midrange, a buttery rolloff in the treble, just something that isn't there in SS equipment. All amps don't sound the same //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Are they more accurate? Probably not, but they impart something to the music that I really like listening to.

I'll add just because I like debates //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

Any changes that a tube amp (or any piece of equipment) makes to the original signal is distortion.....be it warmth, "buttery rolloff", etc etc. If it wasn't part of the original signal, then it's distortion. Now, whether or not someone interprets this distortion as pleasant and/or something they enjoy, so be it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif It's their ears and their opinion.....not our place to tell them they are wrong.
