I am currently trying to squeeze 2 JL Audio 18w3 D2's into the trunk of my Taurus. (if it cant be fast, why not loud? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif ) I cannot figure out how in the heck to fit them in there. Anybody want to take a stab at designing an enclosure for me?

Trunk Specs:

43" is the space between the trunk hinges on the inside.

18" isthe maximum height because of the rear stage spkrs.

from the back seat to the back panel its about 40"

between the strut towers is about 37"

the length of the trunk opening is about 52"

Sub Specs:

The thing is, I don't know the best way to modify the dimensions so that I can keep the same cubic ft. I will take either sealed or ported. I would honestly REALLY like to put them both in, but the box specs and my trunk specs don't really warrant that. So If absolutely only one can fit. I would like it to be ported so I can gain a little bit more SPL.

Thanks Guys,

Brad

P.S. when did the forum start censoring posts //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

I am looking to get at least the required 3 cubes per sub. I have seen 2 boxes in a taurus totaling 5.5 cubes with room to spare. The main delima is height. I can't decide on which way to mount the subs. They are 18's and the max height I can go is 16 (because of the rear stage speakers)

This was my second design on how to place and mount them. But I cant figure out the cubix of them or the exact dimensions.

Also, someone on another forum said to just put them both in a super ported smaller enclosure. I think thats a bad idea right? I am pretty sure that the only people that could build a box better than JL are right here on this forum.

Thanks everybody

Ditch the rear fill if you can. I would either do a build in or just make a box that takes up your whole trunk and is low in height with the subs firing up.

they will most likely have to be up-firing... i dont know that you'd want to aim them into each other because of cancellation

should be able to have them both up-firing and a rear-firing port...

if u go w/ 12 high, 37 wide, and 40 deep that gives you about 9 gross cubes to work w/... so you may not even need to go that deep and keep some trunk space or w/e

Thanks everybody. I will prolly build an enclosure with dimensions: 12 High, 36 wide, and 30 deep, to give me about 6 cubes sealed (useing 3/4 MDF) Shit I forgot about the diriver displacement... I also heard that w3s need about 3 inches of room between the MDF and the magnet. Is that true? If so, I still think I would be ok because JL says that the speaker is 9 inches long (top of frame to bottem of magent) and I have 12 inch Height, meh if I have to Ill make the height a bit taller. n e way, Thanks

Some say you need atleast the diameter of the pole vent away, others say twice the diameter. I personally ran an 18" SX pole vent diameter away with no problems at all with cooling.

make a box that takes up your whole trunk and leave a few inches of height for clearance, fire your subs upward and if you are going ported use aeroports pointing towards the rear of the car.
