Trying to install sound system

I want to install a sound system in my 97 Chevy Camaro. It has Chevy's factory upgraded system and originally paid $450 for it. This is what it says it has: Electronically tuned AM Stereo/FM stereo radio with seed-scan, digital clock, compact disk player, and speed compensation volume. Does this system have a built in amp that I would have to bypass to put new stuff in? And where would the built in amp be? Thanks for the help.
