trying to get louder 28-100Hz, which 8's? 2 Kicker S8L7s vs 2 Sundown SA-8s

Well he can build i ashure you, if u dont like his opinions thats one thing. Maybe not up to 100hz, possibly 80. I just want notes 28-80hz loud, my jbl wont get higher then 45hz with decent bass

just wait until the sa-8.v2 comes out and get one of them and the same passive radiator that jacob was using for his testing. will be about the same price and the box can be tiny.

it should give you very well what your looking for. it will probably take some playing around with the weights in the PR to get it just right though.

i believe the box jacob used was and 11" cube...

So ive been talking with my builder about how to get louder full 28-100hz range with 1.75cu of space or so. He just built a new box for his s12L7 and it had his extended cabs rear window flexing. He thinks best bet for me is to do 2 s8L7's running one sealed and one ported in a single dual chambered box. So that i have nice punchy highs and deep lows, i can find em on ebay and stuff for like 280 a pair. But i can also pick up a pair of SA-8s for 270 a pair, but would an SA-8 given the right box sound good 50-100Hz sealed? I know they sound great ported, and also would i have enough space. My builder said the Qts of the s8L7s are so low they dont need large boxes to get loud so thats why there a good option for my space limitations. Im just wondering if sundown would be a better bet, and has anyone tryed this? Or seen results from someone who has
You should probably find a new builder if he is recommending one sub sealed and one ported to fill 28-100Hz.

28Hz-~80Hz should be subwoofer. 80Hz-100Hz should be your midbass.

I have my sub cutoff at 63Hz rather than 80Hz. Sounds to me like your box and tuning configuration from your HU/Amp on your sub is off and an improper install on your mids if your lacking in the 28Hz-100Hz range.

Wouldn't there be large phasing issues from the different group delays if there was a sealed and ported box used? I just don't see how that JBL lacks above 45hz, maybe its the vehicle acoustics- there are some vehicles that just don't like to put up good #'s- a kid at the last MECA event I was at had a 99 Cougar and his peak was at 28hz and he did 138db with 2 sa 12s on 1200wrms in a pro rabbit built 33hz tuned box. Also, how much sound deadening do you have?

maybe i should try turning down my HPF to 80-85hz and see if it sounds better. I havnt done any deadner yet

I think the JBL wants a bigger box honestly. The first box was almost 2cu before port and displacement and it sounded the best honestly. Just took up way to much room and wanted to play into the seat

So then whats my best bet for getting louder with 1.5-1.75cu of space? Want to stay musical but just louder all around then currently

You need to do a combination of things. Get deadener, closed cell foam, tune the HPF down to atleast 80Hz.

Get a sub thats ideal for a 1.5-1.75 cube enclosure or pick up some polyfill at Walmart. Its $3 and change for a 1 pound bag. Get some deadener in your doors and get some closed cell foam. That will immediately help close the gap where the midbass and sub meetup.

Your build may be able to put some peices of wood together but he dont have a clue about making it sound good.. if he did you wouldnt be looking at 8s
Any size sub can sound as good as any other size sub. I had a pair of ID8's that matched my DC Audio Level 4 15" in output and SQ.

If your currently sub can't play above 43hz well, you've got something wrong. If the box took up too much space, you need a small sub. And your builder is an idiot if he is recommending a ported and sealed combo. Get some deadener like dragon suggested, and fix your install. install > equipment. Your mids should be picking up at 80hz at the highest. you might wanna look at some Dayton HO, or some TC Sounds Epic 8s. If you want loud, ported is the way to go.

best best is to use a passive radiator and do a 6th order bandpass box if you really want high output from 100hz to 28. The box won't be huge since the PR will take care of the need for a big port tuned low. The higher bass will be augmented by a higher tuned port. For a flat, but loud in car response you want to try and get the box to dip in response around 35-45 and pick up gain around 80hz and below 35.... You want something with a low q that likes small ported boxes.

What does PR stand for? >.> laugh then explain

Also can anyone suggest an 8 that works well ported at .75 or so, box would be 2 8's at 1.5 or so. ALot of my music has 45-50hz bass so im thinking ill tune it to 38-40Hz maybe 42Hz. I would be satified if i moved good air 30-60hz, above that bass dosnt have to really hit just be heard. But i want a good hard thump 30-60hz My JBLs a monster 28-38hz but anything higer dosnt hit very hard, i love how nasty my lows are but alot of my music dosnt bump //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Ill get some door deadner in there over Christmas and lower my HPF on my amp

Or could i do 2 SSA Dcons sealed at 1.75cu ft, they will get low sealed wont they? Also was considering a pair of old school RF punch 10's(american made ones), since they like .67 sealed
