Trying to design my own speaker.

Well before I waste my time doing that, would you ahve any reservations using a cone that looks like this:

They are the most transparent midwoofers I've used, but they ARE hideous and they discontinued the regular D6 and the D6.8 isn't the same.

If it works I'm fine.

Yeah I saw that when I was on the site earlier today, and I don't agree with his assessment. He's padding the shit out of that woofer at high frequencies, which is exactly the opposite of what I and PE have done, and is using rather high inductance values based on what he thinks the driver will do at high frequencies. Based on my initial thoughts, then mine and PE's response plotting, it doesn't appear that that'll work.

So many recomendations/designs and so little money and time. Dedicating your self to a plan ends up being the hardest task. I almost hate deciding what to use. lol

How about a basic simple crossover I can start with and then go from there? Like something that will work, but then let me work on tweaking it myself. Like maybe a 2500-2750Hz Butterworth design?

Thats what I did with my lines, but with lines it isn't as critical anyway because SQ isn't the main goal or strength of them. If going for SQ then good drivers on a generic XO will just be shit.

Since you own a nice set of BW, if you make these with a craptastic XO, then you will never listen to them and possibly get discouraged lol.

Well, the bog reason I want to do this is to use them up at school while the B&Ws stay home. Maybe I should do a cheaper kit as the receiver I will be using is a $89 Insignia 100Wx2 stereo model. I have had good luck with Insignia stuff, but it is far from high end.

Lol, I was going to put these in my bedroom for using with DVDs, music and Xbox 360. I know they won't have a ton of bass, but they will work.

That is what I am considering, but starting without an R7 then trying a 3 ohm like the person recommended. Wht are your opinions of trying that?
