Trying to Decide Between a Few Subwoofers

Same here, more money towards the new alternator and big 3 upgrade. Yeah I'm thinking an XCON 12 with 2.5K amp is the best for my setup. Pretty excited. Project should be done by end of summer (including new door speakers and tweeters). Speaking of which I am probably going with Crescendo Audio component 5.25 inch sets, but does anyone else have any recommendations? I need 5.25 inch woofers, tweets can be pretty much whatever size just no deeper than 3 inches. Mounting depth is 2 3/8ths I believe.

It's more so a budget thing, the space saving is a nice added benefit as I am doing this whole setup in a Ford Contour SVT. I'm not looking for as loud as possible though, I also want good quality, so a single higher quality sub with slightly less output than 2 lower quality ones seems like the best choice to me. I suppose 2 GCON's from SSA would be another good option though, hmmmmm.........

you'll need the big 3 upgrade and a good AGM battery under the hood and. You wont see a 3k draw at all after box rise. Wired to 1 ohm, you'll be seeing 2-4 ohm power numbers so its not that bad. Kind of the reason why I said the Xcon will easily handle 2.5k its because of box rise.

Just wanted to quote you and ask something. What are your thoughts on 2 GCON's instead of the 1 XCON? Essentially the same amount of money, maybe more output? Does this sacrifice sound quality much? Don't know much about SSA subs so this is why I keep asking.

I will definitely be getting a custom made box. There's some on eBay that are built exactly to specification so ill probably get one of those. I have considered making my own but not sure if I wanna go through that and I don't exactly have all the tools.

Stay clear away from ebay boxes. Most are junk. They just have the "custom" in the name to fool noobs. Its FAR from custom. Repeat, stay FAR FAR Away.

Single 15 inch xcon is right up your alley. Id say XCon because they are built quite a bit better and can have greater SQ capabilities than a Gcon

I would probably go for that but my max height clearance is 16 inches, so 12's is really what I'm limited to, in that case would ya say single XCON 12 or dual GCON 12's?

Gcon 12s will be louder. Xcon will sound better and still get decently loud. Get a boxdesign and build it yourself.

xcon's are great drivers. i had 3k on mine for about a year. never had an issue

doesnt the Xcon have aluminium shorting rings? Not sure if the Gcon does as well..
