Trunk Resonance and Sound deadedning material

Ok, the way the a guy from my local audio shop explained it to me was that every trunk just has a certain resonance level where it amplifies the bass. Im wondering just how much is average though. When I crank my subs up all the way, EVREYTHING in my car shakes, spare tire, panels, 3rd brake light, cluster gauge a little even, mirrors. But as soon as I open up my trunk, the bass just completely drops out. I mean I hear nothing but the song itself at this point. Now, My trunk rattles like a mf'er when its closed. Will it actually hurt my bass level its at now by putting deadening material in it. And what about other methods such as facing the box towards the cabin or lining the trunk seal with rubber?

sound deadener might help you or hurt you in how loud it gets....i had to do alot of trail and error in my trunk with deadener....for example i dampened my rear deck by my 6x9's and i lost .4 db's on the meter.....and as far as box placement and resonant freq. of your car that takes alot of testing and building to find out whats best for your car as far as box tuning and placement....its not easy to get loud from the trunk....on average a loss of 2 to 3db from the trunk....
