trunk car "walls"

Been seeing a LOT of people suggesting doing a "wall" under the rear deck sealing teh sub off form teh trunk and then porting through the rear deck. They always seem to say face the remove the rear seat, face teh sub forward and port through rear deck.

Well, i want ot do this however i cannot remove my rear seat (well, i CAN but i WON'T) so I was plannign to have the sub rear facing with the ports through the deck. Should that work out O.K.? I mean other wise my sub will just be dangerously close to slamming against my back seat... and i don't think that would be good...

If it comes down to removeing the rear seat being a MUST for good SPL i may consider just removing the "back" portion of the rear seat and leaving the bottom section there i gess but i would really rather not if i dont HAVE to...

I'm not removing my back seat with mine, and it will be listened to with the seats up plenty of the time. I will most likely be cutting out through the center armrest of the back seat though so the subs aren't being choked for space when the seats are up.

i had subs and port forward and basically walled off my box with MDF screwed to the outter sheet metal. sounded like *** with the seats up but hit a 145.7 with the seats folded down. loved the fact my windsheild flexed and the trunk didnt rattle at all. I couldnt port up because my deck lid isnt very deep, so any ports would have been hitting the sub when they came through the box.

before and after pictures. box was already built for the car, i just made mdf triangles, pealed the carpet back around the sheet metal, screwed the sheetmetal to the mdf and recarpeted

that would be cool but i don't have folding rear seats... not sure any Cadillac does to be honest... could be wrong though...

I will see how it sounds this way and if i don't like it, i will turn it around, remove teh rear seat, wall it and see if ti is worht it or not... I guess as long as i have the bottom part of the seat and seat belts people can still sit back there ; )

Front of the box is going to be Plexi so that would look pretty sweet back there!

I want to do the same setup as the eclipse ti's but i dont know of any good box builders around here... might take on the task in a little.

i am still trying to debate whether to fire forward or backwards. I really don't like driving around with the seats down, and the back of the seat is kinda thick. i need to do a test enclosure to see how i like it

I've been putting alot of thought into a setup like this for my car for over a year now. I'm not sure how well it'll sound with the seats up, but I think it looks tacky with the seats folded down every day. I figure if I'm going to have to ride around with my seats down, then I'd rather just go with a complete wall and get loud errrrrday

Personally i would not fire a sub into the trunk and port it through the rear deck. I would design the box in a way so that the subs can fire forwards into the cabin and port through the deck if that is your goal. Also make sure that the trunk is completely sealed off from the rest of the vehicle.

Heres my old set-up. Port and sub forward, sealed off from the trunk on the backside.

Got extremely loud...but was built to do SPL...12" Soundstream SPL-X Quad 1 ohm, 2 SAZ 1500D's strapped and 2 Kinetik 2000's.. yielded me a 151.3@60Hz. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
