Truck having trouble starting sometimes.

It's not all of the time, but when I goto start it after letting it sit for a good while it acts as if it doesn't want to start. It'll turn over about five times and eventually start, but it's not all the time...only on a cold start after sitting for a few hours.

I got my battery and alternator checked today at Autozone and they said everything was alright, and told me to get my starter checked out. Seem legit? Because I was under the impression I'd hear the starter grinding to start, as that's what I've heard in the past on other vehicles.

how many cold cranking amps was it reading at autozone?

I honestly wouldnt trust those guys to help me pick out an air freshener.

If its not catching all the time, there could be a couple teeth missing off the starter.

I have an 03 F150. It doesn't always start strong. And it starts differently depending on whether it's hot or cold or not.

i just had the same problem with my jeep, i took it too autozone and it was the battery. ended up my system pretty much ran my battery until it was broke. gl with your problems

It's been a running problem. The ECU relay was FUBARed and now this is happening. Fvck used cars.

My grandpa had a 99 F150 for his company work truck, 4.6L, also.

This same thing was happening at times, but not really intermitent with the weather. Bought a new battery and it stopped.

I'm assuming it cranks and turns over and doesn't start?

or does it not crank and just click?

if it doesn't turn over and just click, it's either your battery or starter...

not always. the starter in the MINI went out a few months ago, it just was hesitating to start more and more each day, sometimes it wouldnt and id have to push start it, then it would start for a while unless i let it sit, sort of like yours. never heard grinding, it just wouldnt turn over.

it was the starter.
