TRU TECHNOLOGY Amps

See, when I talk about an amplifier, I am talking about the entire freakin' unit. This, however, is entirely irrelevant to my point - that 10% THD is clearly audible.
The Optimus XL-400 is the junky amp I'm referring to. Straight from the horse's mouth:

I have verified this by your link and by two other sources.

My apologies. I stand corrected on the 10% THD Optimus Amp.

The amplifier was clearly in need of re-design due to the significant amount of noise that it induced.

That is however also my point, even with a THD of 10% or above- which yes, is audible, sound quality is not being altered, rather the introduced noise is only increasing at a more noticeable rate.

Compare this in a similar fashion to the annoying alternator whine, or turn on/off thump some experience.

Hopefully this will clear things up.

No harm done, I almost didn't believe the 10% THD when I first read about it (despite my experience with the amp, that seemed extraordinarily high).

However, I'm not sure I agree about sound quality not being altered. My idea of sound quality is "does this sound precisely how the artist/creator/whatever intended it?" I consider any sort of noise, distortion, or even background noise to be a problem. So if the amp is responsible for the sound being noticably different from what it should be, then it definately has an effect on SQ. But that is based on my definition of amps and SQ. Yours may be different, as SQ is a rather subjective thing.

I still maintain that an amp can not influence Sound Quality.

A double blind test is likely the only way either side will be persuaded.

Currently, every double blind test that I have administered or participated in, I and those taking the test have not been able to discern and noticeable difference in Sound Quality between amplifiers.

With that in consideration and the engineering of amplifiers not providing any means of altering SQ; it’s pretty easy to see how I draw this conclusion.

In happy words,

We may just have to agree to disagree and still remain friends.

Hi Ti, which TRU amps have you dealt with?

I'm shopping for a new 4 channel amp right now.

Thinking of PG, PPI, US Amps, Arc & TRU.

Is the T4.65 a good amp even their the cheapest in their line, is still $450.
