Tricks to finding out if an amp puts out what it claims?

There are so many amps put there, how do you know if it will really put out the RMS it claims? I usually add the fuses together and then multiply by ten, so (30A+30A)x10=600RMS. But I don't know if that actually works. Any tricks?

Get a dmm and a clamp and clamp the amp

Definitely more to it than that!! We've clamped my budget amp (power acoustik 5500) at over 3kw. Proper testing has been done a few times and proven them to do a clean 2200-2400 rms @ 1ohm. Just saying, I could wire it down to .5ohm, crank the gain and play the right tone and probably show 4kw~, doesn't mean it'll do 4kw rms...

I meant without actually buying the amp, sorry, should have specified. I just don't want to buy a crap amp that doesn't do what it says.

the fuse theory works a little but not dead on accurate. just post like "thoughts on (name of the amp)" and people will chime in, then you decide
