well im completely new to this, lets start with i just bought a vw gti and i want to throw some sounds into it. i dont want anything extravagant but i am concerned about quality. im not replacing the head unit as of now and im just thinking about one sub to start im not really concerned about money but i would like to not spend a fortune and i could say who wouldnt. i want something that has deep bass but also covers the mid and some of the high range. im also sound proofing, dampening the sound what have you throughout the car so i need to know what i should get sub, amp wise even tweeters, door speakers etc (maybe) and what the best material is to sound proof.

thanks, i know i know NOTHING. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

it would be best if you get a deck, since your sub will sound nicer with the rca's running off of that
yeah i mean i want to eventually casue i wanna get a in dash screen, gps etc but i dont wanna drop the cash right now. and all i need is a little bass in my life! thanks tho

well...then your going to need a line output converter to get a signal for your amp

which most of them are junk unless you spend some good money, you alot of the time get to much treble from them and a quite signal (sorry if my terms im useing dont sound pro)

It would work out better if you just find a cheap used deck just to use for now

dont worry about it im not a pro whatsoever haha, well thats the kinda info im lookin for casue i woudlnt have known that so guess ill just invest in a nice deck now haha

A new deck will bring some bass to your stock stereo a lot of times. I would do that even if you dont get a super pricy one. there are guys on here with good units for under 100.

RE AUDIO

these are good and relatively inexpensive.

as are these.

A good head unit is probably the most important part of a system. if you insist on starting with the subs then youll need a LOC.

yeah ill just buy a head unit lol, thanks for the info tho ill take a look at the other links.

for LOC, you should look into either the Audiocontrol LC6i or Cache Audio COE6. than you'll need to look at getting an EQ for sound processing, you should look into an Audiocontrol EQS or Three.1 maybe even DQX. Honestly this is gonna run you a pretty penny, really pretty. Trust me, I had an LC6i going into a KQ9 and just recently got rid of it to get a indash DVD unit. it would have been cheaper to just get the headunit first.

I agree on the FI Q. decent sub to hit all fo those ranges and still fairly cheap. The cheaper decks actually put out alot more volts then alot fo expensive ones. The kenwood excelons are excellent and you get a good 5V output plus they look pretty sleek and classy and not all crazy and have anti skip.. Depends on the money you want to spend on dampening. A cheap brand that i use that works great is fatmat rattle trap. Its just as thick as dynamat.. people say its not but the rattle trap is and its ALOT cheaper.. do an entire car for 90 bucks or so..

Ive never had experience with kenwood or eclipse much, but they do seem to be the way to go unless you grab an older or really expensive pioneer. PS the higher the preout voltage the better the sound is coming from your amps. Even so if youre looking for a good HU there are quite a few guys posting in the classifieds for both Double Din units and traditional decks, 99% of them kickass decks for below the price of anywhere else. Ive found that most everyone here takes care of their sh*t as well.

Where do you buy your fatmat from?

This has not been my experience, at least not when using a line drop on an amp for subs. Is it better to get a head unit and run RCAs? Hell yes. The quiet signal problem, however, is something I've never run into. The quality is diminished compared to RCAs, but the signal strength never appeared to be weak. What line drops have you used? On all the ones I've had experience with, the signal strength was adjustable on the line drop. I never had to turn the gain adjustment on the line drop more than 1/4 the way up.
