Too Much Wattage

I have a Pioneer HU that puts out 50W x 4 channels. In my truck I have four 20W (RMS) 4x6 speakers. The speakers' peak power is 100W. What happens by running them at a 30 watts over their nominal wattage? Can they blow?

Also, if I put four 75W (RMS) 4x6 speakers with peak powers of 150W, will they not sound good because they are not recieving at lest their nominal wattage?

actaully depending on which pioneer h/u he has it's prolly closer to about 18-20 most h/u's don't put out more than 21 watts of power that is the reason a lot of people run speakers off an amp.

Ok, so what about the 75 RMS watt speakers?

If the HU puts out like around 20 watts will the sound quality be bad? When I put them in there was NO bass and all highs. Like only the sweeter was working. is that cause it's not working to its full capacity?

ok i can tell ya somtin.........its no fun running any kind of speaker if you CANT blow it. mess around with it and try it at different volumes and all with different kinds of music. get to know and trust them at certain levels. once you get to know them then you can start to worry......

Correction Adam, people also amp speakers to gte a cleaner signal. By using an external amp, the cd player is not forced to play at such a high volume level. With lower levels the distortion is kept at a minimum, and cleaner signal and sound waves means ur speakers can play louder, cleaner, longer.

No. The power rating is how much they'll take max. Minimum is usually like 2 watts. You have other issues if there's no bass.
What kind of speakers are they, and how are they mounted?
