I was reading up on RAAMaudio's site and he seemed to suggest that too much sound deadener, especially behind a speaker, can end up muffling the sound and killing midbass. Is this true? I ask because I am switching from a DLS MS6a to a Hybrid Clarus 6.5" set (one speaker installed so far), but both sets seem to be lacking in the midbass department. It sounds more like a tap-tap than a boom-boom when bass hits, especially at lower volumes. Doors are fully deadened with raamatt (used a whole roll on just the doors), speakers were mounted on MDF rings, isolated with clay, and with egg crate foam behind them. I'm thinking now that maybe TOO much deadening or the egg crate foam is causing problems since these speakers are supposed to be run IB. Speakers are HP at 63hz @ 12dB. Any ideas?
